!REFERENCE: 2018 obituary for daughter Barbara Ann Gordon, "Barbara Ann Gordon, 93, Truro, passed away peacefully on 17 Jan 2018 at MacLeod House, Hilden. Born in Victoria, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Alexander and Edna (Mosher) Murphy. Barbara graduated from the Normal College in Truro as a teacher. She started her teaching career at the age of 17 in Conn Mills, Cumberland County, continued her work in Wentworth and Tangier, after which she began a long career teaching at the provincial School for the Deaf in Halifax, Amherst, and finally Truro. After 40 years of teaching, Barbara retired in Jun 1981. She was a proud member of the Nova Scotia Retired Teachers Organization and a dedicated parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Truro and St. Cornelius Church in Streets Ridge, Cumberland County. She is survived by her son, John and wife Darlene, Wolfville; sister, Eileen and devoted companion Sharon, Victoria, Cumberland County; three grandsons, Jacob (Vancouver), Samuel (Fredericton), and Jonah (Halifax); as well as several nephews/nieces and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; sister, Mary; brother, Alfred; and stepbrother, Robb. There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday 22 Jan at 1:00 pm in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. A reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Burial will take place at St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Streets Ridge in the spring. Barbara was a generous donor to a wide range of charities; in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
