Mr. Nadeau was born March 3, 1923. He joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 18 at the beginning of World War II. After being honorably discharged at the end of the war, he came to Atlanta where he met his future wife, Virginia Burgess. Most of his career was spent as a mariner, much of it with Chevron Oil Company. The family moved to the Atlanta area in 1960. Although his education was limited, Mr. Nadeau was able to build the house they lived in for nearly 40 years. He could read a book and then be able to build anything. Later, he built their house on Lake Sinclair. After his retirement, Mr. Nadeau enjoyed antique cars and spending time with this grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Nadeau.
Mr. Nadeau is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia Burgess Nadeau of Perry; his sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Karen Nadeau of Buford, and Jim and Sheree Nadeau of Kathleen; his grandchildren, Zack Nadeau, Caitlin Nadeau, Sheridan Nadeau, and Logan Nadeau; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Joe". !REFERENCE: 2023 obituary, "Virginia Rae Burgess Nadeau, longtime resident of Perry, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Perry. The Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Wood officiating. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. She had recently celebrated her 95th birthday, a milestone that she found amazing, because she had seen so many historic events during her life. Born in Oklahoma in 1927, her family moved to Alpine, Texas, where she grew up raising cattle and riding horses. In the 1950's, her family moved to Georgia just as she was a young adult. She soon met her future husband, Joe Nadeau, in Atlanta, and their marriage lasted until his passing in 2017. She raised three sons and could always be seen at their school events, bringing snacks or simply being a vocal supporter. For years, she was a fixture in the second pew at First Baptist Church of Perry every Sunday. She loved the opportunity to prepare meals for various groups, happy to contribute in any way she could. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Gladys Burgess; and five siblings, all of whom she loved and missed very much. She was also predeceased by her husband of sixty-three years, Joseph Nadeau, Sr., and her youngest son, Charles Nadeau. She is survived by two sons, Joe Nadeau Jr. (Karen) of Buford, GA, and Jim Nadeau (Sheree) of Bonaire, GA. Not surprisingly, she delighted in her four grandchildren, Zack, Caitlin, Sheridan, and Logan; and one great-grandson, Caden. She loved her many nieces and nephews because they reminded her of her own sisters and brother. She also loved the Dallas Cowboys, her blueberry bushes, and colorful flowers. She supported many causes that captured her heart. She couldn't help but send five or ten dollars to many groups. Some of her favorites included those that benefited Native American children. She said she didn't want to be "greedy", because she felt she had enough to share and help others. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements."
