Born Dec. 23, 1938 in Keno (Meigs County), he was the son of the late Blaine Ellsworth & Adda Loyse Stalnaker Newell. A graduate of Shade High School, he was employed for 40 years with E.I. DuPont Co., Washington Works. He was a former member of the Federal Hocking School Board of Education, was a youth basketball coach in Coolville and had served on the E.I. DuPont Fire Brigade. Royce enjoyed showing his antique cars, a ’56 Chevy Truck and a ’57 Chevy Sedan, attending Antique Tractor Pulls, NASCAR racing, hunting, fishing and travel. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille Williams Newell; two daughters- Charlene (Randy) Hornsby of The Plains and Debra (James) Powell of Reedsville; four grandchildren- Lacy Hornsby, Cody Hornsby, Derick Powell and Morgan Powell; one great grandchild, Landon Hornsby; four sisters- Lois Jean Ashcraft of Loris, SC, twin- Joyce (Robert) Dailey of The Plains, Barbara (David) Lindsey of Pickerington, and Carolyn (Max) Burchfield of Longs, SC; a brother, Harold (Betty) Newell of Chester; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be conducted Friday 11:00AM at Reedsville Cemetery (Olive Township, Meigs County) by Pastor Denver Dodrill. Friends may call Thursday 5-8PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens."
