Martin, former resident of La Veta, but who has for the past several years made his home at Rifle, Colo., died in a Denver hospital May 18. He was born Dec. 1, 1877, at Haysville, N. C., and died at the age of 67 years. He is survived by two sons, Floyd and Henry of Rifle; two brothers, T. J. Martin of Rifle and James of Farmington, N. M.; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Turner of Fruita, Colo., and Mrs. Laura Bristol of La Veta. Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the La Veta Baptist church, with the Rev. J. H. Gerault officiating. Interment will be in La Veta cemetery, under the direction of the Unfug-Peet mortuary. Huerfano World - May 31, 2001 - This Week in La Veta History - 1944: Died, Luther F. Martin, 67. He was born in Georgia in 1876 and came to La Veta in 1882. His wife, Jennie Crumley, whom he married in 1903, died in 1942.
