!REFERENCE: Dec-2009 emails from great grandson Tom Byer to Don Braffitt, "My dad couldn't remember if Michael had died from a heart attack in the front yard but it sounds like it was a stroke and he died a few months later. ... Michael’s Dad was Christian Byer who came over from Germany at 17 or 18 with his wife. They only had enough money for one boat ticket so one of them hid in a wooden trunk to get on board. I have that trunk as it has been passed down through the generations. Just don't have much information on him or his wife. ... Christian's first wife is how we have been told about her death. Her buggy accident was from a backfire of an early automobile. Startled the horse pulling her buggy. She fell out and hit her head on a fence post."
