!REFERENCE: 2022 Florence, SC, obituary for Peter James Braffitt, "Peter James Braffitt, 54, of Florence, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022. Peter was born on April 8th, 1968 in Nashua, New Hampshire to Paulette and Peter Braffitt. After serving in the US Army, Peter joined AIRMAR Technology in 1987. Leaving briefly to run his own business, Peter returned to AIRMAR as Sales Manager, ultimately becoming a Vice President of AIRMAR and the Director of Gemeco Marine Accessories, based out of Lake City, South Carolina.
Peter was well admired and respected by the marine industry, known for his wealth of knowledge and expertise, and also served on the board of the National Marine Electronics Association. From childhood, Peter was a self-taught mechanic and an avid lover of all things automobile. First building model cars as a kid, Peter then owned his own Snap-On Tools franchise and later ran an auto performance detailing & upgrades business. As a young teen, he even stored new tires and rims under his bed, saving them for the day he’d be able to drive. At age 17, Peter met Tracy Lynn Tanguay Braffitt, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. Together they raised three beautiful children. Peter loved everything boating and fishing and was a master craftsman, especially when it came to woodworking. He had a great talent for sketching plans and blueprints, and he loved using these skills to design and improve his own home. Peter was fortunate to have been able to travel extensively in his career, but also loved being home to enjoy the life he’d built for himself and his family. Peter was so proud of his children and of all of their accomplishments. Peter is survived by his wife and best friend of over 30 years, Tracy Braffitt; his parents, Peter and Paulette Braffitt, his son, Jake Braffitt; two daughters, Katie and Paige Braffitt; two sisters, Marlena Phillips and LeeAnne Gagnon; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. Peter was a friend and mentor to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. There will be a celebration of life on Monday, October 31st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Souhegan Valley (56 Mont Vernon St) in Milford, NH. There will be a short presentation promptly at 10:00 AM, followed by an opportunity for friends and family to express their memories. A light lunch will be served following the presentation. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, November 5 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home in Florence, South Carolina.
