!REFERENCE: 1909, "Obituary: Elizabeth Curtis (nee Bird) died at her residence near Otto, Macon County, NC, having lived long and well, only lacking two years and four days of living one hundred years. She was the daughter of Rev. Jonathon Bird, who at one time was chosen by Bishop Asbury as his traveling companion. His home was a resting place for the pioneer bishop in his travels across the mountains. Sister Curtis, or Aunt Curtis as she was familiarly called by all, married to Askew January ( June?) 3, 1832. From this marriage were born ten children, all who have professed faith in Jesus Christ as their savior. She had 40 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was the aunt of the Rev. John W. Bird of the Western North Carolina Conference, lately deceased. Asbury church has lost its oldest and most faithful member. Not only her numerous descendants but all who knew her will revere her sacred memory. May all strive to meet her in heaven.", from 2000 Banning Generations
