He was a veteran of World War II as well as The Korean Conflict and a life member of Peerless Chapter 10 Disabled American Veterans, of which he was the adjutant treasurer, a life member of Scioto Memorial Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of James Dickey Post 23, American Legion and he was a Mason, Aurora Lodge. Surviving, are his wife, Mary Coyle Brooks; a daughter, Dr. Cynthia Brooks Payne of Westerville; a sister, Betty Brooks Smith of Berkeley, CA; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bane H. Brooks in 1952."

Born March 24, 1924, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jessie B. and Estellea M. Hans Brooks. She was the wife of Raymond F. Smith, her husband of 53 years. She has lived in Maryland since 1990. She was a retired sixth-grade educator from Ohio and had substituted in several Baltimore County elementary schools in recent years, primarily Franklin Elementary School. She enjoyed volunteer work and volunteered at the Liberty Assistance Center and Maryland Science Center. She attended Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, Randallstown. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters Pam Smith of Pikesville and Chris Smith of Minnesota; devoted friend Cathie Crooks; and grandchildren Charles and Elizabeth Smith. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Donald L. Burgard and Christine Smith officiating. Private interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive, P.O. Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236-0025; or to Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, 11023 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133. Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills is handling funeral arrangements."
