!REFERENCE: 24-Apr-2009 email from granddaughter Carolyn McAbee-Gober to Don Braffitt, "Saw your information on Will/Braffitt/Johnson/Cook family. Someone has submitted information to LDS in error. They have Mary Catherine Soots as JOHNSON. Mary Catherine (Soots) and John Calhoun Byrd were my maternal great-grandparents. Mary Catherine would turn over in her grave knowing she had been named a Johnson. Zachariah Johnson, a widower, was her step-father but Granny always called him "ol' man Johnson". She said he was mean to her and her sister Bet (Nancy Elizabeth). She called his son "Ma's ol' man's son". Isn't that a round-about way of avoiding calling him her step-brother. Their father, Elisha E. Soots, had what old timers called heart dropsy. He was still living during the Civil War when Home Guard came to their place. Granny said they were so frightened but the men only wanted to come in to get warm. Elisha was in bed ill at the time. I have more information if you want it. I have death dates of some of the folks on your site, place of burial, etc. My grandmother was Rebecca Carolina Byrd, sister to Washington Sheridan .... wasn't his nickname "Bum"? Hope to hear back. Carolyn"
