They moved up the coast and eventually ended up at Penobscot. When the American War of Independence erupted the family was torn in half. Three of the Heney children fled to Canada. Josiah Heney (c1754-1836) took refuge at Windsor, NS where he had a relationship with Anne Rigby (1757-c1826). They had a son Nathaniel who was raised by his grandparents Henry and Elizabeth Rigby. Josiah Heney and Anne Rigby married at Windsor on 29 December 1779. They had at least eight more children. In the 1790s the family settled at Deer Isle, NB and the surname changed to Haney. Nathaniel Heney Rigby married Mercy Pitcher at Halifax on 17 Dec. 1798. She was the child of Moses Pitcher and Mary (Massey) Dolbeare of Boston. In 1801 Mercy inherited Pitcher's Farm at Antigonish so they moved there.
