!REFERENCE: 12-Nov-2011 email from Jessie Cheek to Don Braffitt including extensive Coker family research of descendants of Larkin Coker (1786-1873), "I have been researching various Coker lines that are traced back to Coker men who lived in North Georgia before 1850. I am currently working with the Coker DNA coordinator to see if we can find some more Cokers who are willing to do the Coker DNA testing. We haven't yet found a Coker from the Larkin Coker line to do the testing. I see that you have information on Givins Ervin Coker, b. 7/28/1888. It appears that he had only one daughter, Mary Gib. Did he have any sons as well? Are you in contact with any direct male Coker descendants of Larkin Coker?  My research indicates that Givins I. Coker was the son of Edwin or Elbert R. Coker, b. 12/1845, who was the son of Jacob Franklin Coker, b. 1822, son of Larkin Coker, b. 1786. I am going to attach my genfile on this family. If you have any more information, or any leads as to how to find a Coker male from this line to do the DNA testing, please let me know. My husband descends from a Sintha Coker who married William Cheek in 1821 in Elbert Co., GA. One of my husband's 5th cousins, Cliff Coker (who descends from Sintha Coker's brother Alsea Coker) did the DNA testing for our line of Cokers and it appears that Sintha Coker's grandfather, Joseph Coker, may have been the brother to the Charles and William Coker who moved to Tennessee from NC. I host a Coker e-mail research loop and we are trying to figure out how all of these early Cokers are related to each other, or if they are not related and if there are several different lines. Of course, non-paternal events do make this research more difficult, but the more Cokers we can get tested the easier it will be to find patterns and to help point us in the correct direction. !REFERENCE: 23-Jun-2016 email from Jerrie Best, granddaughter of Jess Coker, to Don Braffitt, "My grandfather is Jess Coker, ER’s 2nd youngest son. He is POP in the photo I sent earlier. ... Jess married early and worked in various textile mills around Roswell finally ending up in Knoxville, TN. He had 7 children. In 1969 when his sisters Effie and Daisy died, their estate was divided between their surviving nieces and nephews (neither of them ever married and lived together in Villa Rica). My mom - Jess’s daughter - who is 96 and still alive remembers receiving about $250. But in the settlements addresses were provided and Mary Gib wrote asking for information about her father Gib. I remember my aunts Katie and MaeDoris writing her back. Katie, Jess #2 daughter, would spend summers with ER and Mary Mathilda. Gib was young and unmarried and would chase her around the outside porch and dangle her over the railing. Our family are noted "teasers" and it sounds as if Gib was too. We had the letter from Mary Gib until 2011 when a tornado destroyed my mom’s house. I have a couple of photos I will send ..."
!REFERENCE: 26-Jul-2017 email from Jerrie Best to Don Braffitt, "I have quite an extensive family tree on Ancestry entitled Not for the Faint-Hearted. The Cokers were among the first settlers in the Atlanta area - actually Lost Mountain north of Atlanta near Kennesaw. Unfortunately, they never acquired fame or fortune, to my knowledge, but there were many intermarriages among those early settler families. My grandfather Jess always worked in the cotton mills/textiles/mattress industry and moved frequently. I think each of his 7 children were born in different cities around Atlanta; he finally moved to Dalton, GA and from there up to Knoxville."
