He was born on May 11, 1929, in Banks County and was the son of the late Grace Stephens and Henry Morton Crumley. Mr. Crumley leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Lyle Crumley of Athens, Georgia. Mr. Crumley attended schools in Banks County, and graduated in 1946 from Maysville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. Crumley moved to Athens in 1952 and graduated from the University of Georgia with honors in 1959. He worked for the Central of Georgia Railroad, Better Maid Dairies, and the University of Georgia. He was retired from the University of Georgia after 30 years of service, holding several positions including Manager of Contracts and Grants. A member of First Baptist Church, he was active in church serving as a deacon, teacher, choir member, church clerk, and treasurer. He was also active in civic organizations. Mr. Crumley loved sports and was an avid golfer for many years. Mr. Crumley loved life, had a great sense of humor, and brought great joy to his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Mr. Crumley is survived by his daughter, Maria Crumley Schendzelos, his son-in-law, Alec Schendzelos, granddaughter Cara Charlotte Schendzelos, and grandson Edward Lyle Schendzelos, all of Charleston, South Carolina.; sisters, Mrs. James Bertram (Ladelle) Whitfield of Cornelia, Georgia; brother Branson Jolly Crumley of Homer, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday April 30, 2007, at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Ross officiating. Interment was at Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, Georgia. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 355 Pulaski St, Athens, GA 30601, or to St. Mary’s Hospice House, 1662 Jennings Mill Road, Bogart, GA 30622. Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements. The Commerce News, May 9, 2007 • Paid funeral notice."
